Reviews For East or West

This whole "allocation" thing really buys into this unlikely "everybody secretly prefers to be safe and controlled and have their decisions made for them" mindset. It seems to be a running theme. While there are some people who do think like that, it is FAR from the norm, and there is a huge difference bettween choosing to give someone that control and them taking it from you. To suggest that characters such as McKay and Weir would be content in such an environment when there was the possibility of release is patently out of character.

I find it very hard to believe that Rodney and Elizabeth would allow themselves to integrate with the genii in such a way. It is sheer out of character behaviour, no matter how Kolya manipulated the situation. The fact that they *reallocated* themselves when they had the choice to be free is just laughable. Everybody is just so *agreeable* about their situation. Nobody ever does anything in any way independent. They just take Kolyas word for everything and settle down to be good little slaves. Why not leave and strike out by themselves when they had the chance? They may be away from the "protection" of the genii, but at least they would be free. Your brainwashing storyline was not in anyway strong enough to provoke this kind of docility.

It's interesting- this fic had a lot of triggers for me-suicide bombers, believing that winning a war was so life and death that human rights concerns fall under the wayside... I actually would probably not have allowed Rodney to return to the Pegasus Galaxy, if I'd been at the SGC! But as always, your characters are fantastically written and your stories are compelling and take me from tears to triumph. Thanks for posting!

At first I didn't much care for the story, but I have come to trust your writing so I went on and soon I was captivated. I love the way you have written Rodney and the way his super brain came out of the Kolya ordeal even more super as the rest of him was more refined. I love the potential that Carsen recognized in himself, as well as the fact that he was willing to share when he saw what John meant to Rodney. And I just love John, his need to help and to save and his utter conviction that there was no one for him. I haven't finished the story, (chapter 10) but I cannot wait to see what happens. I just stopped by to say thanks for writing, and next time I feel tempted to skip a story I will remind myself what I almost missed in this one!

Wow, this was fantastic! Definitly a top 10 rating! I couldn't stop reading it until ch 10 when I had to sleep. Then I had to finish midterms so I could allow myself to finish reading your story. Wonderful, angstful, unique, action packed and a long wonderful story w/ a happy ending. Best thing ever. Great job, keep up the great work.

I loved, loved, loved this story. I wish that I were better at writing reviews, but honestly, when a story is great for me, I see it as a whole, more than the sum of its parts.

Still, the way that you wrote John will stick with me for a long time to come.

Thanks for writing!

P.S. It might give you all a laugh to know that I've never seen a *single* episode of this show. Basically, when I find authors that I like, I read everything that they've written, even if I don't know the fandom. :)

I probably won't finish this story today. But I wanted you to know that this chapter made me cry. I very, very rarely cry when reading, but this chapter made me cry.

And not a little, either. Out and out, almost too teared up to read the screen, crying.

So, take that for the compliment that it is. :)

Thanks for writing.

Dear Kat Reitz and Perryvic,

Great news! Some of your stories have been nominated in the 2007 DiversiFICation Awards.

We know that most authors are thrilled to be nominated for an award and eagerly await the voting results, but there are some authors who don't care for awards and choose not to participate.

To that end we'd like you to reply to this letter letting us know if we have your permission to include your stories in the awards.

Your nominated stories are:

East or West, Beckett/McKay/Sheppard, http://www.caffiends.net/viewstory.php?sid=429

Life Without, Beckett/McKay/Sheppard, http://www.caffiends.net/viewstory.php?sid=423

For each story please let us know if you give permission for the story to be included in the awards. Also, please check that the primary pairing is correct and that the link is the one you want us to use when we announce nominations. If there are warnings we should be including (language, graphic sex, deathfic, rape, various kinks that could also be squicks, etc.) or other pairings in the story, feel free to include those in your response as well, as we'll need them eventually.

Once we see the number of final nominations in a pairing category, we may or may not be splitting them into genres. At that time, we will contact you to see if you wish to withdraw any nominations to avoid your stories competing against each other and to categorise your stories into genres.

You can reach the DiversiFICation awards by leaving a comment at http://community.livejournal.com/sgdiverse_award/3955.html (we prefer this so all administrators have easy access to it-- all comments are screened for your privacy) or by emailing me, SGAtlantisLight, at sgatlantislight at yahoo dot com. If you have any questions, see the author Q&A at http://community.livejournal.com/sgdiverse_award/3613.html or feel free to email me.

Thank you for your time and for your lovely contribution to fandom!

Sincerely,

Light

I loved this. It is going right into my favorites file. And I know I wouldn't mind if you wrote a sequel some time down the line. :)

Someone needs to punch Leo in the face. Really really hard.

That bastard! I just know he planned it all! Kolya the protector indeed.

I'm really enjoying your story. A couple of times when you refer to Atlantis (ie Rodney and Zelenka worked on Atlantis) I think you mean antarctica.

I love everything about this story, your characterization, the way you are weaving bits of canon throughout this AU, the world building you have done, the imagery. It's all simple beautiful.
